In May I wrote about clutter—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
The purpose of this month’s article is to encourage you to take a new look at your garage—often a major repository for clutter—and to help you to raise the ch’i of your garage.
FENG SHUI & YOUR GARAGE
How do you view your garage? Do you think of it as a dumping ground for anything that you’re not currently using? Or, do you consider it to be an important part of your entire space?
If you’re like me, you may occasionally use extra garage space as a staging area for projects you’re working on. When you’re actively engaged in a project, energy is moving. This is good! However, if you abandon a project and leave it there, it becomes clutter and adds stagnant energy to your home.
Regardless of whether you have an attached garage, a separate unattached garage, or a carport, your overall Feng Shui is affected. If it’s attached to your home, it occupies a portion of the Bagua of your home. In other words, it can impact the energy related to that area of the Bagua. You’re not off the hook if you have a detached garage or carport on your property. Its condition influences the Bagua area where it’s located on your lot
If you live in a condo, townhouse or apartment, the effect of a carport or garage depends on its location, whether it’s attached to your unit, or whether it’s common property belonging to the complex. If it’s on common property and separated from your unit, consider the area of your dedicated parking space to be a separate Bagua. Remember though, it still has an energetic tie to you.
GARAGE “RULES”
• If possible always park in your garage or assigned space.
• Allocate plenty of room to comfortably and safely get in and out of your vehicle
• Note that your garage represents a transition between your public and personal lives. When you return from a busy day, there should be a transition to more restful and healing activities. I realize that family activities are often hectic and far from relaxing, but this is the ideal!
• Decorate your garage! Depending on what part of your home or lot it’s situated, add something that represents the corresponding part of the Bagua. For instance, my garage is in the Helpful People/Travel area of my home. There are many ways to work with this area. However, I chose to place ceramic angels blowing kisses toward my living area. I also have a wreath on the entry door to my house and several wreaths hung in strategic places throughout the garage. Be inspired and willing to change the décor as your life and needs change.
• Clean the garage floor. I suggest doing this at least once in the spring or summer and prior to welcoming in the New Year. However, any other time works. Floors represent your foundation and your ability to ground. Ask yourself if the qualities of the corresponding Bagua area are reflected in that area of your life. If not, consider adding a grounding symbol. It can even be something as simple as a special rock in the corner.
• Remove clutter and organize whatever’s left. Add storage solutions to bring order and simplicity to the space. Examples are hooks for hanging gardening tools, shelves, and cupboards.
• Finally, your garage influences your state-of-mind, along with the various circumstances in your life. Make sure that it reflects your goals and your true self!
May your life be filled with peace & joy!
