THE KNOWLEDGE AREA
If you can only Feng Shui one area of your home or business, the Knowledge/ Wisdom area* may be a good place to begin.
This area relates to each of the other areas of the Bagua. For instance, without knowledge or wisdom, it will be difficult to:
- Maintain a positive one-on-one relationship (the Relationship area)
- Handle money and make good spending decisions (the Wealth area)
- Have good rapport and close bonds with important groups of people (the Family and/or the Helpful People areas)
- Know your purpose and have a successful path in life (the Career Area)
- Visualize and take action toward your desired future (the Fame area)
- Raise successful children (the Children/Creativity area) These are just a few of the many connections between Knowledge and other areas of the Bagua.
Education, your ability to make correct decisions, memory issues, intuition, being able to tap into both the wisdom that comes with age and the knowing that you were born with, are all connected to this area.
You might think that you need to acquire more information or education.
However, if you’re not finding solutions to pressing problems, answers may come from cultivating more wisdom, rather than acquiring more information. Wisdom is cultivated outside of the normal information channels (such as books and the internet) and is usually the product of life experience and personal growth.
You will benefit from enhancing Knowledge, if you have difficulty:
- Studying, grasping or understanding information
- Preparing for a challenging test
- Deciding upon a course of action
- Expressing yourself or conveying information that you already know
- Slowing down and being still enough to listen to your intuition
- Quieting down to meditate or to prepare for sleep
To enhance Knowledge, place books or symbols representing the type of knowledge you are trying to embody in this area. You can also place affirmations related to issues you are currently working on here.
This is also a great area to store and work on journals, meditate, and do any personal growth activities.
Other enhancements include artwork with mountains, items that are light to medium shades of blue, and pictures of mentors, spiritual masters, or other people you find inspiring.
The I Ching trigram associated with Knowledge, assigns this area of the Bagua to The Mountain. This symbol has long been associated with quiet contemplation, personal growth, and spirituality. The two bottom lines making up this trigram are yin, counseling us to go within at the earth and the human level. The top line, relating to the heavens, is yang. It teaches us to actively reach out to a higher power. Since the shape is like a doorway, the trigram for Knowledge refers to it as a gateway to inner knowing. Your ability to go deep within yourself to discover ideas and answers that you may have never considered will be accelerated when this area is in balance.
Lastly, if possible, use the Knowledge area as your own special place to meditate, pray, record your thoughts and dreams, think, and study, or just to be still and receive inspiration.
Next month we’ll complete this series on the Bagua with the Center, which is the major health area of the Bagua.
Wishing you the Wisdom to create your most cherished dreams!
