Snooze or You Lose: Feng Shui Your Way to Better Sleep – Part Three

Feng Shui Your Way to Better Sleep – Part Three

Winter Greetings!

Now that we’ve moved deeper into winter darkness, it’s also time for our own natural rhythms to guide us inward. Ironically this is also the time when many folks feel compelled to increase their activities.

The last two articles: SNOOZE OR YOU LOSE, Feng Shui Your Way to Better SleepPart One and  Part Two focused on the bedroom—including bedroom décor and artwork, bed placement, the bed itself, EMFs, poison arrows, and mirrors.

This month’s article is on the Bagua and how individual Bagua areas can influence your sleep–even when the bedroom isn’t located there. Review your home’s Bagua. If something is out of balance or doesn’t feel right, see if there is an adjustment you can make.

ADJUSTMENT IDEAS RELATED TO THE BAGUA & SLEEP

CAREER – Although this area is dominated by the water element, too much water, if not balanced by other elements, can contribute to depression or sleeping too much. * An easy way bring balance to this area is to add the missing or low element itself.

* Too much sleep for adults is generally nine or more hours. Of course there may be circumstances where this is appropriate. If there is a question, please seek appropriate medical advice.

KNOWLEDGE – If you’re in denial, not dealing with pressing issues in your life, depressed, or sleeping too much, the Knowledge area may need an adjustment. To help balance this area, add a symbol or affirmation requesting wisdom or knowledge about your sleep issue.

FAMILY – Adjust this area if you have sleepless nights trigger by worries about your family or other groups that you’re associated with, or if you ‘re not feeling socially connected. Add either an actual or symbolic picture or representation of the group involved.

WEALTH – Your sleep can be affected if you’re holding on too tightly to your money, belongings, or even people. Not sharing throws inflow and outflow out of balance. If clutter is an issue, clearing everything not needed from this area is a good place to start. Otherwise, add a symbol of life, such as a healthy green plant.

FAME – Among other things, Fame relates to the future. If your sleep is impacted by worries about either your long or short term future (even small things like worrying how to handle something mundane that is happening tomorrow), look at this area.

This is a great time of year to make a vision board or treasure map describing what you want to create in your future. If possible, display it in your Fame area or the Fame area of an individual room. If this isn’t appropriate, hang it in a closet or out of the way space, but somewhere that you will see it regularly.

RELATIONSHIP – Whenever intimacy is missing either in a committed partnership or with a significant individual in your life, the Relationship area may need attention. Art representing relaxation, fun, and well-being in your relationship or a symbol that invokes a feeling of connectedness and love is a good adjustment.

CHILDREN – One aspect of the Children’s area is its connection to our creative spark. Whenever creativity is missing or ignored, joy may also be missing. Place a symbol here to represent play, joy, or of you fully participating in life.

Participating fully in activities that you’re enthusiastic about usually naturally encourages deep restful sleep. (Watch your personal boundaries here! Participating fully doesn’t mean being busy.)

HELPFUL PEOPLE – We all need helpful people. If they’re missing, you may not sleep well.

If you have an inkling that you need medical advise, help with a personal issue, or assistance with any project needing professional input, place a simple affirmation about getting appropriate assistance somewhere in this area where you will see it.

CENTER – The Center is the main health area of the Bagua. This area is also connected to present time. If sleep is an issue, any practice that brings you into the present—such as deep breathing and meditation—can help with sleep. This is a great area to store your yoga mat and other items that will help you to relax and release stress. If this isn’t possible, a soothing restful picture or an affirmation can also be a good adjustment.

Earlier I mentioned clutter in regard to the Wealth area. However, clutter can add to confusion, lack of clarity, or health problems related to any area where it’s located—and significantly contribute to sleepless nights!

May your sleep be deep & restorative!
